What Is the Uniform Bank Performance Report (UBPR)?
The Uniform Bank Performance Report (UBPR) is an insightful analytical tool designed to aid in the supervision and examination of financial institutions. Created by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC), this report analyzes how management decisions and economic conditions impact a bank’s balance sheet. It evaluates key factors like liquidity, capital adequacy, and earnings to assess the bank’s overall stability.
Timely Insights for Financial Stability
- Uniform Bank Performance Report Focuses: Summarizes financial position, performance, and risk exposure of American banks.
- Key Ratio Analysis: Provides comparative ratios for the current quarter, previous quarter, year-ago quarter, and year-to-date.
- Call Report Integration: Filed along with the Call Report containing details like financial statements, loans and deposits, investments, and capital changes.
Understanding the Uniform Bank Performance Report (UBPR)
The UBPR highlights how economic conditions and management decisions affect a bank’s overall performance and balance sheet composition. It serves as a critical tool for monitoring a bank’s profitability and liquid asset abundance. Furthermore, by evaluating a bank’s growth and managing its assets and liabilities, the UBPR plays an essential role in maintaining or restoring a bank’s financial fitness.
Banks typically depend on short-term deposits to fund long-term loans to consumers and businesses. This dependence makes them vulnerable to economic shifts and sudden large withdrawals. Hence, the FFIEC monitors banks’ stability through the UBPR.
Consistent Timely Data with UBPR Delivery Schedule
A bank’s UBPR is usually published within 24 hours after the associated Call Report has been filed with the Central Data Repository. If there are any errors in the Call Report, the UBPR publication is delayed until those errors are corrected.
Regular Updates with UBPR Recalculation Schedule
UBPR data is updated continually to maintain its relevancy:
- Daily Updates: Data for the current quarter is recalculated each night and published the following morning.
- Weekly Updates: Data for the current quarter and four previous quarters is recalculated every Friday night and published on Saturday morning.
- Quarterly Updates: A comprehensive 21-period recalculation is done quarterly, two weeks before the submission of new Call Reports, and published within a three-day window.
Once a vast majority of banks have filed their Call Reports and UBPR data is updated, peer group average data is determined. For most peer groups, averages are published 30 days post the Call Report filing date or on the report’s due date. For groups 1 and 2, data is published 35 days post-filing or on the report’s due date.
Harness the full potential of the UBPR to proficiently supervise and manage your financial institution’s stability and growth, ensuring long-term, robust financial health.
